A large driveway needs a boundary that feels part of the property while giving the space a clear edge. For this Cannock project, InstaFence installed a continuous run of 6ft feather edge fencing with timber posts in front of an existing wall. The new fence created the private enclosure the homeowner wanted and gave the frontage a consistent timber finish.

The brief: privacy around a substantial driveway
The homeowner wanted to enclose the driveway without losing the traditional appearance of the frontage. The existing wall remained a feature of the boundary, with the new fence positioned in front of it. That made the relationship between the wall, posts and fencing important to the finished look.
A continuous feather edge arrangement was chosen for its solid appearance and the privacy it provides. The 6ft height gives the enclosure a clear visual boundary, while the timber posts keep the supports in keeping with the fence itself.
The installation: a continuous fence line
Our team fitted the feather edge fencing across the driveway boundary and completed the installation in one day. The finished photographs show a consistent run rather than a mixture of disconnected panel styles. Timber posts support the fencing, and the fence follows the frontage in front of the existing wall.
Feather edge fencing uses overlapping boards to create a solid face. The quality of the finished boundary depends on the supporting structure and installation as well as the timber boards. For this project, the agreed result was a 6ft enclosure that suited the scale and character of the property.
The result: a more defined, private frontage
The completed fence changes how the driveway reads from outside the property. It forms a single timber boundary, screens the enclosed space and gives the entrance area a more deliberate finish. The photographs below show the installed fence from several positions.
This job is one example of how residential fencing can be planned around an existing feature. A wall, change in level or entrance opening will affect the design of another site, so the same specification should not be assumed to suit every driveway.

Is feather edge fencing right for your property?
A solid feather edge fence can be a useful starting point where privacy and a traditional timber appearance are priorities. Post material, height, ground conditions, access and exposure still need to be considered. You can compare wooden posts with concrete posts and look at our other completed installations before deciding which finish you prefer.
