This installation combines traditional lap fence panels with concrete posts and concrete gravel boards. The timber panels provide a solid garden boundary, while the concrete components give the fence a clearly defined supporting frame and keep the panel bases away from direct contact with the ground.

A practical combination of timber and concrete
The project used lap fence panels from Premier Garden Supplies alongside concrete posts and gravel boards. The finished installation pairs warm timber panels with the lighter concrete frame, creating a consistent appearance along the garden boundary.
Lap panels provide a traditional solid screen. Concrete posts resist rot and do not require timber preservative treatment, making them a practical support option where the customer wants to retain timber fencing without timber posts.
Why the gravel boards matter
The concrete gravel boards sit below the panels. Their purpose is to separate the timber bases from direct soil contact and provide a neat lower edge to the boundary. Keeping timber away from the ground can help reduce exposure to moisture at the panel base, although the panels still need appropriate care.
The gravel board height must be considered together with the panel height when specifying a fence. Posts, board lengths and panels also need to be compatible. It is the complete arrangement that creates the finished boundary, rather than any one component on its own.
A fitted panel system with a consistent finish
The lap panels were fitted into the grooves of the concrete posts. The completed fence follows the garden boundary with consistent panel spacing and a clear line of support. This slotted arrangement can allow a compatible panel to be replaced in the future without changing an otherwise sound post.
As with any fence, future maintenance depends on the condition of the whole system. Concrete supports do not remove the need to inspect fixings, care for timber panels and address damage when it occurs.

Considering lap panels for your garden?
This project is a useful example if you want a conventional garden fence with concrete supports. You can explore garden fencing styles and our concrete post installation service to compare the options. If parts of an existing fence are still sound, repair or panel replacement may also be worth discussing.
The specification for your property should be agreed around the ground, access, privacy requirements and any gate openings. Photographs and approximate measurements help us understand the enquiry before the installation details are agreed.
