This completed fence combines 5ft feather edge panels with 1ft concrete gravel boards to create an overall 6ft boundary. Concrete posts support the panel run, while the timber face brings a traditional garden-fencing appearance to the finished installation.

How the fence height was built up
The overall height came from two components: the 5ft timber panel above a 1ft concrete gravel board. The gravel boards form a continuous lower edge and help keep the timber away from direct soil contact. Together, the panels and boards create the full-height boundary shown in the project photograph.
Panel height alone does not describe the whole fence. When planning a similar installation, the gravel board, finished ground level and any changes in level need to be included in the specification.
The concrete post arrangement for this installation
The recorded specification for this job used 10ft concrete posts, with 4ft below ground and 6ft above ground. Those measurements describe this particular installation; they are not a standard depth recommendation for every fence.
Post size, setting depth and foundations should be selected for the site, fence height, ground conditions and exposure. If you want a similar appearance, our concrete fence post service can discuss the supporting arrangement appropriate to your property.
Feather edge panels with a solid, traditional finish
The project used 5ft feather edge panels from Premier Garden Supplies. Their overlapping boards create a solid face that suits a private garden boundary. The concrete posts frame the timber panels and establish the line of the fence.
Attention to panel alignment and the lower edge gives the completed fence its consistent appearance. The photograph shows how the timber panels and concrete components work together rather than competing with one another.

Maintenance and future replacement
Concrete posts and gravel boards resist rot, but the timber panels still need suitable care and periodic checks. Look for damaged boards, loose fittings and changes around the base of the fence. Where the post system remains sound, compatible timber panels may be replaceable as part of a repair.
